Stu's Stories as at 2022

89 | P a g e The following stories are about some of our influencial pioneer forebears Captain John Oliver (1823-1859) James Sneddon (1830-1911) Thomas Charles Hewett (1794-1871) James McGrath (1826-1910) Although, as far as I know, James McGrath had no special pioneering experiences, one of his sons, Francis (Frank) McGrath had an enormous influence in Turf Racing in Australia in the late 1800’s until his death in 1947; first as a jockey (when he nearly lost his life) and later as a trainer where he went on to win 3 Melbourne Cups and a host of other major races. He was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2003.
